MARSHALL TRACTION ENGINE #58389
This is a two speed Double Crank Compound Marshall Traction Engine.Since buying this engine at auction from T.K. Brown's estate in 1996 we have re-tubed the boiler, built up the diff gears and repaired the rear wheel bearings and third shaft bearings. The wheel bearings were bored out and sleaved. It had no feed pump and only two injectors. We had the injectors serviced.
When T.K. Brown owned it, it had no wood basket. Someone pointed out to him where there was one that might do for a replacement. It turned out to be the very one from this engine that had been cut off to make firing easier during its days driving a threasher. He just welded it back on.
It is currently out of service awaiting attention to a bearing on the third shaft which had a lubrication problem and was producing little piles of bronze sawdust the last time the engine ran.
